The Black Law Student Association (BLSA) presented its Black History Month Lecture Series promoting awareness of and highlighting solutions for current social issues in America.
The lecture series kicked off on February 1 with “Black History is American History” presentation by Professor Dwight McDonald. The discussion focused on the importance of recognizing Black History as American History and examined why there is a month set aside to celebrate to the accomplishments of African Americans.
On February 6, guest speaker Mary Tobin, founder of Tobin Leadership Consulting, discussed the critical need for African American and minority attorneys in the fight for social justice. Yodit Tewolde, a criminal defense attorney and a national legal analyst, was the final guest speaker on February 22. Known for her appearances on Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, and others, Tewolde presented on Media, Race, & The Law.
BLSA also hosted a Unity Mixer at the Local Bar & Grill on February 23 to conclude this year’s Black History Month celebration.
